Year 10 pupil Sam B is a key player in his year group’s successful rugby team and also captains the strong Beverley RUFC Under 15’s where he is coached by former pupil Mike Kilgannon. A player who shares a lot of the characteristics that his coach demonstrated in his youth, Sam is elusive, with a good passing and kicking game. He has been playing at Beverley since the age of six and said, “The club has given me a range of opportunities to progress into representative rugby as well as developing all my skills. They also serve the best chicken nuggets! Everyone is really nice and welcoming and they really look after everyone. It’s a great community club and all the parents, not just the players are 100% involved.”

Alongside fellow Year 10 pupil Ben, Sam has been playing representative rugby having been nominated by his coach and successfully working his way through two trials at Bishop Burton College which involved skills based training sessions.
Sam said, “Because my dad coaches at Beverley, my mum takes me everywhere and I couldn’t play sport without her. Sport has given me discipline and something to look forward to during the week. It’s an environment I feel confident in and can enjoy. I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved in my rugby and can see how much I’ve improved over the years.”
He added, “ In the future I hope to get selected for Yorkshire and become a professional player – it would be unbelievable to get paid for doing something I love.”
