FLYING START FOR YEAR 9

20th September 2019

The Year 9 Boys Rugby Team got off to a flying start to the season, avenging their semi-final cup defeat by Malet Lambert at the end of last year.

Full back Alex Argent Moss opened the scoring, racing on to a neat inside pass from captain Jack Charles, who added the conversation to make it 6 – 0. Harrison Glendinning had an excellent game and scored the first try of his hattrick, sprinting the long way around the length of the field to out run the chasing defence. Year 8 pupil Luke Foreman finished off a good move in the corner just before half time. With Charles converting all 3 tries Longcroft went in at half time with an 18 – 0 lead.

Malet Lambert started a comeback and scored early in the 2nd half. However this was short lived as Longcroft stepped up another gear after Glendinning scored another full length effort, this time from an interception. He then turned provider, gifting a try to the impressive prop, Tom Rae who troubled the defence all game with his blockbusting runs. Charles controlled the game magnificently, kicking the corner for Rae to catch cleanly and put down just as he crossed the line. Gendinning and Rae both completed their hattricks, the latter from a great off load by tenacious hooker, Will Hutchinson.

Jack Charles converted all but one of the tries, most of them from the touchline, giving a final score line of Longcroft 48 Malet Lambert 6.

We're very proud of you all!
