Physics Talk Sparks Interest

02nd May 2018

On Wednesday 25th April, Professor Brad Gibson visited Longcroft from University of Hull.

Brad (second from the left on the above photo) gave a highly engaging talk on Astrophysics and Mathematics and discussed all the technology that this field has contributed to our daily lives.

Students from Year 8 to Year 13 thoroughly enjoyed their experience and some have signed up for the University’s internship programme to work in Astrophysics during the summer holiday

Science Curriculum Leader Mr Worthington said “it’s excellent to see our young people engage with the world of Physics and see the real careers and opportunities out there beyond their time here at Longcroft”.

Any students from Years 10 to 12 who are interested in working on Astrophysics projects with University of Hull during the summer holiday, can get in touch with Mr Worthington to discuss opportunities.

Head of Sixth Form Mrs Holland said: "The talk is part of a wider initiative we have in the Sixth Form, to bring the world of business and careers into school. The students really benefitted from the fact that Professor Gibson gave them lots of ideas about how Physics qualifications fit into the wider world. As a History Teacher, I was amazed at how many doors could be opened with a physics degree! We look forward to more talks like this coming soon - watch this space!"
